Embermark Saga
★★★★★ 4.5
Embermark Saga surprised me with how much it trusts the player to care about its story. The turn-based combat is solid, with a positioning twist that stops fights from feeling like button-mashing, but the writing is the real hook. Party members have arcs that pay off, not just quest markers.
Battles ask you to read enemy patterns and swap party formations mid-fight. Early on it feels forgiving, then a few bosses force you to rethink your whole setup. That escalation kept me engaged well past the point most mobile RPGs lose me.
There's a fair bit of reading, so it's not for everyone. But if you want a proper adventure you can dip into on a train and pick up days later without losing the thread, Embermark Saga handles that beautifully.
