Keeping strategy games smooth without draining your battery

Strategy and tower defense games can be surprisingly hungry on both battery and heat, especially when the screen is full of effects. A few adjustments buy you longer sessions and a cooler phone, and none of them ruin the experience.

First, drop the frame rate cap if the game lets you. Many run fine at 30 fps for turn-based or slower titles, and the battery savings are immediate. Fast racers are the exception — keep those high.

Turn down particle effects and background detail before anything else. In tower defense games especially, all those explosions add up, and lowering them rarely changes how the game actually plays.

Close background apps and enable your phone's battery saver for long sessions. It sounds obvious, but it's the single biggest fix I see people skip. On a commute, that alone got me an extra map or two of Spire of Embers.

Lastly, check whether a game offers an offline mode. Playing without a constant connection often cuts power draw noticeably, and it means the metro tunnel won't kick you out of a match.
